Esau Castellanos-Bernal was first seen by police speeding, then he crashed into some parked cars and stopped in the street. As officers got close to the car to investigate, Castellanos-Bernal was shot and killed by the police. Family was awarded $3.75 million in lawsuit against city. Police had claimed that Castellanos-Bernal had first fired on them as they approached the car and that they had actually been hit by the bullets, but there was no evidence to support this claim, no injuries or damage to their clothing, not even a found gun.
