Police said Deputies Paul Petropoulos and Erick Maldonado were alerted to a stolen other by an anti-theft device and followed the tracking signal. When the driver spotted the deputies, he tried to flee and crashed into trees, fences, a trash bin and one of the deputies' marked patrol car. The deputies fired and killed Whitaker.
