Less-than-lethal force

A man, 88, barricaded himself in a home after shooting and wounding a deputy who'd gone to his house to check on his welfare. The standoff continued for hours into the evening. Tear gas was reportedly used in an attempt to evacuate the suspect out of his home, police said. At approximately 9:30 p.m., the house in which the suspect barricaded himself became fully engulfed in flames. Neighbors said he had dementia.
