Biography

Diako Mohammadi was a 22-year-old Kurdish citizen originally from Kani Rash village in Salas-e Babajani, located in Kermanshah Province, Iran. He was living in Qeshm when nationwide protests erupted in January 2026. During demonstrations on January 8, he was shot by Iranian security forces and killed. His death became part of a broader pattern of fatalities reported during the suppression of protests in the region.

Diako Mohammadi was a young Kurdish man from the village of Kani Rash in Salas-e Babajani County in Kermanshah Province, a region with a significant Kurdish population. Like many young Kurds who move for work or other opportunities, he was present in Qeshm Island in Hormozgan Province when protests broke out in early January 2026. Demonstrations in the city drew large crowds and were met with heavy repression from Iranian security and military forces. On January 8, 2026, Mohammadi was shot by security forces during the protests and died from his injuries. According to reports from human rights sources, authorities initially refused to release his body to his family and demanded the payment of one billion tomans before handing it over. His parents were reportedly in Tehran at the time due to his father undergoing emergency surgery and were unaware of his death until relatives began searching for information about him.
