DeWayne DeShawn Steward reportedly took his life during a standoff after a crisis response team other with a battering ram broke down the door to the trailer in which he was hiding. Steward was suspected in the shooting of an East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff's deputy. The five-hour standoff began at around 10:30 a.m., when deputies tracked Steward down to a rental trailer. Sheriff's negotiators said they tried to convince Steward, who was alone in the trailer, to surrender. Instead, he reportedly killed himself.
