Around 3:30 a.m., a Riverside police officer tried to conduct a traffic stop on a reportedly stolen 1997 Honda Civic. After the car did not stop, police began to chase it. The car attempted to exit the freeway at the Magnolia Avenue off ramp, but the driver failed to complete a turn, and rolled over several times. The woman driving the car, Desiree V. Escobedo was ejected and killed.
