Around 6:30 p.m., police in Rock Island saw a wanted person, DeShawn Tatum, who was considered armed and dangerous. As officers approached Tatum, he fled. Tatum was followed to a nearby gas station where police allege Tatum hijacked a car from a bystander. As officers tried to remove Tatum from the car, he allegedly began to drive in reverse, dragging several police officers. Police shot and killed Tatum.
