Walmart employees called police around 7:40 p.m. to report a shoplifter fleeing in a gray Ford Taurus. An officer arrived and spotted the car in the Walmart parking lot. The officer ordered the driver out of the other, but the driver allegedly starting ramming cars including Ridgeland Police cars, pinning the officer. The officer then fired three shots, hitting Watkins once and fatally wounding him.
