After a 10-month struggle between the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel and the local police department to release the most basic of records from Williams's death in the back of a police car, the medical examiner revised its ruling on the cause of his death from natural to homicide. Williams spent his last moments gasping for breath, pleading for help while suffocating, while officers nearby ignored him.
