Derek Harrison was struck by a motorhome and killed on Highway 101 while running away from police. The incident began shortly before 11:30 a.m. when a GMC Yukon was reported stolen from Union Engineering Co. An officer spotted the SUV a few blocks away, heading toward a freeway underpass where Arundell curves sharply. According to police, Harrison sped off when he saw the officer, then crashed into a pickup truck. Harrison reportedly got out of the SUV, ran across the railroad tracks onto a dirt road next to the freeway, then jumped a fence and ran up an embankment onto the freeway. Police said Harrison was hit by the motorhome when he ran into the slow lane of southbound 101. He died at the scene.
