Less-than-lethal force

Croud, who was acutely intoxicated, had a history of schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. He was stunned with a Taser in a violent struggle with officers. They took him to the hospital where they directed that Croud should remain face down with his hands handcuffed behind his back and a spit hood over his head. Croud went into cardiac arrest and died. The city of Duluth settled a wrongful death lawsuit with his family for $100,000.
