King and Byron Jay Thomas sucker-punched off-duty Deputy Richard Jue, 49, as he worked a second job as a parking lot attendant. They pulled his reflective vest over his head and took all the money in his pocket. Deputy Jue pushed the men away, drew a pistol and shot at them, striking King fatally in the chest. Deputy Jue had served for 27 years.
