A park ranger investigating complaints of a man acting strangely and creating a disturbance encountered David Maher. Maher fled to his other in the parking lot and reportedly drove in the general direction of the ranger. The ranger shot and killed Maher. Maher turned out to be wanted on previous police-chase and narcotics charges, and had failed to show up for a sentencing hearing.
