He was a former political prisoner and the brother of Zakariyya Zobeidi, a high-profile Palestinian detainee who escaped from Israel’s Gilboa prison in 2021. Daoud came from a family deeply affected by the Israeli occupation—his mother and brother Taha were both killed by Israeli forces during the 2002 invasion of Jenin camp. Known for his resilience, Daoud remained active in his community despite his family’s long history of suffering under military violence. On May 13, 2022, he was shot in the abdomen during an Israeli military raid, and despite undergoing surgery and intensive care, he died of his wounds on May 15, 2022 at Rambam Hospital in Haifa. His death drew protests from Israeli extremists and further underscored the targeting of Palestinian families deeply tied to resistance.
