Pursuit

Daniel Avalos was killed after he crashed during a high-speed pursuit with the CHP from Redwood City to San Jose. At around 3:30 a.m., officers began chasing a Honda Accord that was reportedly driving as fast as 125 mph in the Gilroy area. According to officials, Avalos led officers onto I-280, where he tried to exit at Winchester Boulevard, hit some dirt, lost control of the car and crashed. The Honda went airborne and rolled at least once. Avalos was pronounced dead at a hospital. A passenger was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. One officer reportedly sustained minor injuries when a patrol other crashed into a sign. Officers later said the Honda had been reported stolen.
