According to the Collier County Sheriff's Office, a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop for not having lights on the car's license plate. The driver accelerated away from deputies. After a high-speed chase, the car smashed into a tree and a concrete power pole. Damian Rivera, the driver, and Amy Manzano, the passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.
