Curtis Lamar Lawson died at the jail after he was shocked twice by a Taser as police were trying to arrest him. A GBI medical examiner later found that Lawson died from a cocaine overdose and not from the Taser shock. Media reports don't state categorically whether he was booked, so this incident may be outside of FatalEncounters dataset, which does not include individuals after they've been booked into the jail or prison system.
