Cortez Coburn reportedly drowned in a shallow slough north of Edinburg after fleeing Leake sheriff's deputies in the predawn hours of Jan. 29. His body was found on February 7 in a small pool of water about 2 feet deep, in a wooded area roughly 0.25 miles from where the encounter with deputies had occurred. Coburn's family had reported him missing on January 28; the sheriff's office didn't alert the family, media, or other agencies searching for Coburn about the encounter until after Coburn's body was found.
This record exists so that Cortez Aliandiae “Dre” Coburn, and all who are named in this archive, are never reduced to a number.
