Off-duty homicide detective Gregory Tayborn shot local rap artist Cornelius "Katt" Davis during a struggle. Davis had reportedly borrowed his brother's car and was involved in three separate accidents before the car caught fire at around 8:45 p.m. Davis struggled with bystanders who tried to pull him from the burning other, then attempted to force his way into a passing car, at which point Tayborn intervened. Tayborn shot Davis in the stomach after fighting with him. Tayborn sustained a possible broken rib in the struggle. Tayborn's mother died of an heart attack shortly after visiting him in the hospital where he was treated.
