Cindy Annette Shepard was at first cooperative with police as they questioned her at her apartment about a possible drug shipment, then she became increasingly belligerent. Over the course of a 40-minute standoff Shepard went in and out of her front door, emerging with a different firearm each time. When she advanced on officers with a loaded shotgun, she was killed with one rifle round to the torso.
