Somebody driving by called 911 and informed the dispatcher that someone was standing next to a motorcycle and waving a gun. When a deputy arrived, the motorcycle was unoccupied. A man matching the description of the subject of the 911 call approached a deputy. As the deputy engaged Christopher Derby in conversation, Derby pulled a handgun from his waistband and pointed it at the deputy, who shot and killed him.
