Deadly force
Police were chasing a reported stolen car. The chase ended in front of Washington High School, police said. The car drove forward, striking a police other, which then struck an officer. Police fired upon the other. Christian Evan Vargas, a passenger, was shot and killed. Police alleged vehicular assault. The family was awarded a $5.4-million settlement in November 2021.
