Collins had taken the purses of at least two women at knifepoint. He led police from multiple jurisdictions on a high-speed, high-profile chase that ended when he slammed his car into a utility pole at interstate speeds and died on the scene. Not to be confused with Charles William Collins, killed by police in Miami on August 14 2012.
