Around 9 p.m. Sunday, Collins, who was drunk, crashed his Infiniti into a retaining wall. Deputies responded. Though he was visibly injured, Collins ran away. Deputies pursued and arrested him. Collins did not resist and, according to deputies, refused medical treatment. Deputies put Collins in a holding cell at 12:20 a.m. on Monday. He passed out. Paramedics responded. Collins was pronounced dead at 1:31 a.m. Collins's wife, Christie, said that she did not receive a death notification until Monday afternoon.
