Cause of Death: Mohammad was killed by an Israeli airstrike that struck his family’s home. The missile was fired by the Israeli military during their August 2022 offensive on Gaza, which resulted in the deaths of at least 44 people, including 17 children.
Pleas of surviving relatives: Bilal al-Nabahin, the older brother of 13-year-old Mohammad, survived the August 7 airstrike but was moderately injured. As the only sibling present outside during the attack who lived through the explosion, Bilal has spoken out about the devastating loss his family endured. In a voice filled with grief, he recalled Mohammad’s gentle personality and big dreams. “He had a kind, soft heart,” Bilal said. “He wanted to be a traveling merchant—he always talked about going outside Gaza, working, bringing back things to trade.”
For Bilal, the attack not only stole his younger siblings but also his father, Yasser, who had been a pillar of strength and a devoted family man. Yasser was known in the community for his service as a captain in Gaza’s nautical police. “He had an honorable career of heroism and fighting against the occupation,” Bilal said. He recalled how their father used to sit with them under the trees in their garden, watering the plants with care—symbols of life and peace now turned into a scene of death and destruction.
