Members of the Fresno auto theft task force spotted a stolen car, driven by Carlos Baires. Several police cars tried to box Baires in. He reversed and smashed into one car and allowed a passenger to get out. He then drove forward and hit another police car. A deputy and a state trooper shot and killed Baires, an ex-con who'd just got out of prison and was wanted for attempted murder.
