An anonymous tip pointed police toward Brewster, in a stolen car, at a local gas station. He had outstanding warrants for evading a five-year probation for armed robbery. As officers tried to apprehend him, one officer grabbed the steering wheel through the open driver's door as Brewster was trying to drive off. Brewster was then fatally shot.
