Brooke Elizabeth Smith, was struck and killed around 1 a.m., as she drove through the intersection of Grand Avenue and MacArthur Boulevard, and her Subaru Outback was struck by a driver who fled the scene. David Garibay-Vargas, 27, was charged with manslaughter in Smith's death in June 2021. The Audi had sped away from a Piedmont police officer who attempted to pull it over shortly before the crash.
