Biography

Bilal Jadallah was a respected Palestinian journalist, media leader, and defender of press freedom in Gaza. As the head of Press House–Palestine, he dedicated his life to supporting independent journalism, training young reporters, and advocating for journalists’ safety in one of the most dangerous regions for media workers. On 19 November 2023, he was killed when an Israeli strike directly hit his car in the Zeitoun district of Gaza City as he attempted to evacuate. His death was widely mourned in Palestinian and international media circles, marking the loss of one of Gaza’s most influential voices for journalistic integrity and freedom of expression.

Born and raised in Gaza, Bilal Jadallah became one of the most recognizable and trusted figures in Palestinian media. Over decades, he worked as a journalist, trainer, and media advisor, ultimately becoming chairman of Press House–Palestine, an organization he helped build into a cornerstone of independent journalism in Gaza. Under his leadership, the institution offered legal, professional, and technical support to reporters, while also defending freedom of the press against censorship, repression, and intimidation.

Jadallah was admired for mentoring young journalists, organizing workshops, and giving local reporters a platform to tell their stories to the world. He believed deeply that Palestinian journalists must be able to document reality without fear and worked tirelessly to protect them—especially as Gaza became one of the most dangerous places for journalists to operate.

During the escalation of Israeli attacks in 2023, Jadallah continued his mission, coordinating support for reporters even as press offices, towers, and media crews were being targeted. On 19 November 2023, while attempting to leave Gaza City via the Zeitoun area, his vehicle was struck by an Israeli missile, killing him instantly. His loss represented not only a personal tragedy, but a major blow to Palestinian journalism, as Gaza lost one of its most steadfast advocates for truth and free reporting.
