Deadly force
Ayala crashed his girlfriend's other while drunk, then returned to their apartment . Sergeants Jonathan Lamb and Martin Morris entered the apartment, and were informed that Ayala was armed with a knife and in a rage. The sergeants sent Ayala's girlfriend and a young girl out of the room and closed the door behind them. Ayala ranted at the sergeants and approached them with a knife. They shot him four times and disarmed him. Ayala died.
