A woman called police saying her daughter's estranged husband, identified as Andres Avita, was possibly in her daughter's bedroom, and he wasn't supposed to be there. Shots were also heard coming from the room. Police arrived and evacuated the house, aside from the daughter's bedroom. An officer tried to kick in the bedroom door, but his foot became stuck. Avita fired multiple times, hitting the officer once in the foot. Several officers returned fire. A robot operated by the SWAT team entered the room to find Avita dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His estranged wife, Naira Villarreal-Gonzalez, 21, was found dead from gunshot and stab wounds that investigators determined came from Avita.
