Andre Mason died after struggling with officers on US 45 just south of the Clarke-Lauderdale County line. Mason was reportedly running in traffic after having been let out of a car for some kind of indecent behavior. Mason allegedly refused to obey officers' orders to get out of the road and several minutes of wrestling followed. Officers subdued Mason and put him in handcuffs and leg restraints before bringing him to a hospital in Quitman where he was pronounced dead.
