Biography

Anas Khaled Anshasi, also spelled Anshassi, was a 22-year-old Palestinian from Khan Younis, a city in the southern Gaza Strip. He sustained severe injuries during Israel’s three-day military offensive on Gaza in early August 2022. Despite efforts by doctors at Nasser Medical Center, Anas succumbed to his wounds on August 12, 2022, in the Intensive Care Unit. His death became part of the tragic toll of the assault, which claimed the lives of dozens of civilians, including many women and children.

Anas Khaled Anshasi, 22, lived in Khan Younis, a densely populated area in the southern part of the besieged Gaza Strip. During the three-day Israeli military offensive on Gaza (August 5–7, 2022), Anas was gravely wounded when an Israeli drone launched missiles targeting a group of Palestinians gathered east of Khan Younis. The attack left him in critical condition, and he was urgently admitted to the Nasser Medical Center, where he fought for his life in the ICU.

For days, medical professionals tried to stabilize his condition, but the severity of the injuries proved overwhelming. On August 12, after several days in intensive care, Anas was declared dead. His passing added to the rising number of civilian deaths from the Israeli offensive, which had already killed 49 Palestinians, including 16 children, three women, and one elderly person. More than 360 others were wounded, overwhelming Gaza’s already fragile healthcare system.

Anas's death occurred during a broader wave of destruction and human loss, with entire families affected, homes reduced to rubble, and children orphaned. Like many young men in Gaza, Anas’s life was defined by struggle and resilience in the face of a long-standing blockade and repeated military assaults. His story is emblematic of the generation of Palestinians growing up in a landscape marked by trauma, resistance, and collective mourning.
