According to the territory’s civil defense and independent eyewitnesses, Ghneim was using a drone to record and document the humanitarian distribution efforts of the Egyptian Relief Committee when one of the vehicles in their mission convoy was targeted and struck by an Israeli airstrike. Israeli military statements claimed the strike targeted individuals it said were operating a drone “affiliated with Hamas,” though journalists and international organizations emphasize that Ghneim and his colleagues were engaged in a legitimate press assignment at the time.
