Ammar Shafiq Abu Afifa

Their life

Ammar Shafiq Abu Afifa, 21, was a Palestinian from al-‘Arroub refugee camp, north of Hebron in the southern West Bank. He was a student of Information Technology at Palestine Technical University – Kadoorie. Ammar was described as an outgoing young man doing well in college.

On March 1, 2022, Ammar was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers near Beit Fajjar town, south of Bethlehem, in the occupied West Bank. The soldiers reportedly prevented Palestinian medics from reaching him, causing him to bleed to death. According to a video and eyewitness accounts, Ammar was walking away from the soldiers and was not posing any threat at the time he was shot. His cousin described the killing as an assassination. The Palestinian Foreign Affairs Ministry condemned the killing as a cold-blooded murder and “state-sponsored terrorism,” holding Israel responsible and calling for international intervention.

Ammar was shot by Israeli soldiers with live rounds while walking in a quiet area away from protests. Medics were prevented from accessing him after he was shot, leading to fatal bleeding. The killing was widely condemned as unjustified and a deliberate act of violence by the occupying forces.
