Biography

Ameer Rami Abu Al-Auf, only 9 years old, was one of the many children killed during the Israeli bombardment of al-Wehda Street in Gaza City on May 16, 2021. That night, dozens of Israeli airstrikes struck homes and residential buildings, wiping out entire families as they huddled together in fear. Ameer was killed alongside his mother, Raja’, and his siblings, leaving behind no surviving immediate family. His short life ended tragically in one of the deadliest nights of bombing during that offensive, a night that left the world shocked at the loss of so many innocent children in Gaza.

Ameer Rami Abu Al-Auf was born and raised in Gaza, where he grew up surrounded by his family. At just 9 years old, his life was full of the promise and innocence of childhood, but it was cut short in one of the deadliest strikes of the May 2021 Gaza offensive. On the night of May 16, Ameer and his family sought shelter inside their home on al-Wehda Street as Israeli warplanes carried out relentless bombardments. In the early hours, their building collapsed under powerful airstrikes, burying Ameer, his mother Raja’, and his siblings beneath the rubble. Rescue teams later recovered their bodies, along with dozens of other civilians killed that night, many of them women and children. Ameer’s death came amid a catastrophic escalation that claimed over 200 Palestinian lives in just a few days, overwhelming Gaza’s medical system and devastating countless families. His memory, like that of other children killed, stands as a heartbreaking reminder of the disproportionate impact of war on the most vulnerable.

Pleas of Surviving Relatives and Family if any

Extended family members of the Abu Al-Auf and al-Qolaq families told journalists that children like Ameer “were asleep in their beds, with no warning, no place to run, no shelters to protect them.” They pleaded that the world not look away from the suffering of Gaza’s children.

Surviving relatives from the al-Qolaq family, who lost over 20 members that same night, asked why entire families had to be wiped out in their homes, stressing that “we are civilians, not fighters” and urging the international community to stop the bombing and protect Gaza’s children.

Neighbors and rescuers, after pulling out bodies of children including Ameer, spoke to reporters about the unbearable scene of parents clutching their children beneath the rubble. Their plea was clear: “How many more children must die before this ends?”
