Amal Medhat Abdul Jawad Al-Ghoul was a 55-year-old Palestinian woman from Gaza City. She was married and lived in the Al-Shati (Beach) Refugee Camp, a densely populated area in Gaza that has long been a sanctuary for displaced Palestinians. On October 28, 2023, Amal's life was tragically cut short when Israeli occupation aircraft targeted her family's multi-story home. This airstrike, which came without prior warning, also killed numerous other family members, including women and children, and caused widespread destruction in the surrounding area.

Amal’s home in Al-Shati Refugee Camp had become a shelter for relatives and displaced persons who sought refuge from the ongoing violence. The attack, carried out by the Israeli military, devastated the home, killing Amal and many others who had been living there. The airstrike left the community in shock, as families continued to face extreme hardship in the face of relentless military action.

Amal was known for her dedication to her family and her community. As a mother and wife, she played an important role in her household, supporting not only her own children and husband but also extended family members who sought refuge in her home during times of violence. Amal was a nurturing figure in her family, known for her resilience and her ability to care for those around her, even amid the challenges posed by the occupation.

Before the airstrike, Amal’s family had lived in Al-Shati Refugee Camp for many years. The camp, which has been home to generations of displaced Palestinians, has borne the brunt of many airstrikes and bombings, and Amal’s family was no exception. Despite the danger that surrounded them, they continued to live in their home, hoping that their survival would outlast the conflict. Unfortunately, that hope was shattered on October 28, 2023.

Killed by Israel airstrike

Amal Medhat Abdul Jawad Al-Ghoul, a 55-year-old Palestinian woman, was tragically killed on October 28, 2023, when Israeli occupation aircraft targeted her family's home in the Al-Shati (Beach) Refugee Camp in Gaza City. The airstrike, which occurred without prior warning, resulted in the deaths of Amal and numerous other family members, including women and children. The multi-story residential building, which had become a shelter for displaced relatives and neighbors, was completely destroyed in the attack.

A plea from the family

"We dug through the rubble with our hands." Surviving relatives described the aftermath of the Israeli airstrike that struck the Al-Ghoul family home in Al-Shati Camp. With no advanced warning, the home collapsed over dozens of family members. Survivors recalled the deafening blast and then silence—broken only by the screams of children and the frantic cries for missing loved ones. "They were civilians. Mothers, fathers, children—sleeping. What was their crime?" One family member, speaking to local media, pleaded for the international community to recognize that their loved ones were not militants or fighters. Amal, a 55-year-old mother and caregiver, was one of many women who were simply trying to keep their families safe under siege. "The world must see what happened to us." Relatives and neighbors urged international journalists and human rights observers to document the massacre. The airstrike killed more than 30 members of the extended Al-Ghoul family.
