At around 10 p.m., deputies with St. Martin Parish Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division were conducting an investigation. Deputies approached Alton Davis Jr.'s other, which they believed was involved in a narcotics transaction, in the parking lot of a grocery store. Deputies shot when he allegedly placed his other in reverse and hit one of the deputies. Davis was taken to a hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. The deputy who was hit by the car was treated for minor injuries.
