Deadly force

Officers responded to a report of shots fired outside an apartment building on the city's northwest side. They confronted Alonzo Smith in a car outside his aunt's house. When officers ordered Smith to show his hands, he began firing at them as he exited the car. The officers shot and killed Smith. Smith had a history of mental illness.
