Their life

Alireza Karbasi was a young Iranian civilian from Hamadan who had no known political or military involvement. He was spending time with friends on a leisure off-road trip in a popular recreational area outside the city when he was fatally shot by security forces. His death, alongside that of Mehdi Abaei, became a symbol of growing public anger over unchecked use of lethal force by Iranian security units.

Alireza Karbasi lived in Hamadan province and was known among relatives and peers as an ordinary young man focused on everyday life rather than politics. According to sources close to the family, he had no criminal record and no connection to any opposition group, foreign entity, or intelligence activity. On the night of 30 June / 1 July 2025, he joined friends for an off-road recreational trip in the Tarik-Darreh (Tareek-Darreh) area, a common leisure destination. His killing occurred during a nationwide security crackdown marked by mass arrests, checkpoints, and expanded surveillance.

How they died

Alireza Karbasi was killed after Iranian security forces opened fire on the vehicle he was traveling in during what authorities described as a “security operation” related to suspected drone or Mossad activity.

Security forces opened fire on the vehicle carrying Alireza Karbasi and his companions. Lawyers representing the families stated that the officers fired a sustained burst of bullets without legal necessity and in violation of Iran’s own firearm regulations. No weapons, drones, or suspicious equipment were found. Witnesses reported that the men believed they were being pursued by criminals and attempted to flee, which was followed by lethal gunfire. Alireza Karbasi died as a direct result of these gunshot wounds.
