Ali-Reza Seydi
He was killed during the state’s crackdown on anti-government protests
Alireza Seydi died because he was caught up in an anti-government protest in Iran that was met with force by security authorities.
Biography
Alireza Seydi was a 16-year-old boy in Iran who became one of the symbolic youth victims of the nationwide anti-government protests in early 2026. He was killed during one of the deadliest days of the crackdown, and on February 17–18, 2026, crowds gathered at his chehelom (40-day memorial) in Abdanan, western Iran, chanting slogans against the government in a defiant public tribute to his life and loss.
Information about Seydi’s early life (family background, schooling, hobbies, or community involvement) is not widely documented by major international media because of the restrictive reporting environment in Iran. What is clear is that his death during the protests became a focal point at local mourning ceremonies — a reflection of how many families in Iran have had to publicly grieve loved ones killed in the uprising despite pressure and restrictions from authorities
