Nesom was one of three men in their 20s held in a routine traffic stop of a Toyota Camry reported stolen. After one passenger was removed from the car for questioning, the driver Nesom rammed the police car behind him, momentarily pinning two officers, then lurched forward threatening to run down others. Police fire struck only Nesom, and only in the leg, but it struck an artery and he bled to death at the scene.
