An officer on routine patrol was flagged down by a security guard asking for help with a disturbance outside Star Saigon Bar and Grill. When the officer got out of his patrol car he saw Alex Quoc Nguyen firing into a group of people in the parking lot. Nguyen reportedly confronted the police officer, who shot and killed Nguyen.
