Ahmad Zahran was assassinated during a covert Israeli military raid on September 26, 2021. According to eyewitness reports, Israeli special forces surrounded a small concrete shelter in the Ein Ajeeb area near Beit Anan, where Ahmad and others were sleeping. A shell was fired at the structure, followed by live gunfire. The soldiers later removed two bodies and a wounded individual who later succumbed to his injuries. This lethal raid was part of a larger Israeli operation targeting suspected Hamas members and resulted in the deaths of five Palestinians in total that day.
Biography
Ahmad Zahran, 37, was a Palestinian from Biddu town, northwest of occupied Jerusalem. He was a member of the al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, and had long been a target of Israeli military operations. He came from a family with a history of resistance—his brother, Zahran Zahran, was killed by Israeli forces in 1998. In the weeks leading up to his death, Ahmad was pursued relentlessly by the Israeli military, who raided his home multiple times. Ahmad Zahran was born in 1984 in Biddu, a Palestinian town northwest of occupied Jerusalem. Coming from a family that had already suffered from the conflict—his brother, Zahran Zahran, was killed by Israeli forces in 1998—Ahmad lived under constant surveillance and pressure from Israeli security services.
For nearly three weeks before his killing, Israeli forces, including special units like the Duvdevan forces, had been intensively searching for Ahmad. His family home was raided multiple times, its contents destroyed, and several of his relatives—ten in total, including his wife Asma’ ‘Aasi—were abducted and held by Israel. These invasions were traumatic for his mother, Amina, who had already lost one son to the conflict and now feared for another.
