Biography
Ahmad Mustafa Mahmoud Saleh, 26, was a Palestinian from the Jabalia refugee camp in Jabalia city, located in the northern Gaza Strip. On September 2, 2021, he was fatally shot by Israeli forces near the perimeter fence east of the camp during a protest against the Israeli blockade and military presence. Despite efforts by medics who transported him to the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia, Ahmad succumbed to his injuries. His death occurred during a wave of protests across Gaza in response to ongoing Israeli restrictions and violence, which resulted in dozens of casualties, including children. Ahmad’s killing added to the mounting toll of young lives lost in Gaza’s ongoing struggle.
Ahmad Mustafa Mahmoud Saleh was born in 1995 and lived in the Jabalia refugee camp, one of the most densely populated areas in the northern Gaza Strip. Like many young Palestinians in Gaza, Ahmad grew up amid siege, periodic military assaults, and chronic economic hardship caused by Israel’s blockade, which has severely limited freedom of movement, access to medical care, and economic opportunity.
On September 2, 2021, Ahmad joined other Palestinians in a demonstration along the perimeter fence separating Gaza from Israel. These protests were part of continued resistance against Israeli policies and military aggression. Israeli soldiers responded with live ammunition and gas bombs. Ahmad was shot by one of the soldiers and critically injured. He was rushed to the Indonesian Hospital in Jabalia but was declared dead shortly after arrival due to the severity of his wounds.
The same attack that killed Ahmad also injured at least 15 Palestinians, including five children. The military's use of live fire and high-velocity gas canisters left ten others with burns and deep wounds. His death came just days after other Palestinians, including a 12-year-old child, Omar Hasan Abu an-Neel, died from injuries sustained during similar demonstrations, underscoring the heavy cost of civil resistance in Gaza.
Ahmad’s killing contributed to a growing list of casualties in Gaza caused by Israeli military actions, especially during peaceful or lightly armed protests near the perimeter fence.
