Ahmad Ibrahim Oweidat was a 20-year-old second-year university student from Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, located near Jericho in the eastern occupied West Bank. Known for his commitment to education, Ahmad’s life was cut short by Israeli military violence during a raid on his camp. He was shot in the head and died hours later in a Ramallah hospital.

Ahmad Ibrahim Oweidat, 20, was a dedicated second-year university student living in Aqabat Jaber refugee camp in the eastern West Bank. On the morning of April 26, 2022, he became one of the many young Palestinians whose life was claimed during Israeli military incursions. That dawn, undercover Israeli soldiers entered the refugee camp, soon followed by larger military units. As news of the invasion spread, resistance and protests broke out. Ahmad was present during the protest and was struck in the head by a live bullet fired by Israeli forces.

He was rushed to a hospital in Jericho and later transferred to Palestine Medical Center in Ramallah, where he underwent emergency surgery and was placed in intensive care. Despite the best efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries later that day. At the time of his killing, Ahmad’s parents were performing the Muslim pilgrimage (Umrah) in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, and were informed of their son’s death from abroad.

How they died

Gunshot wound to the head — Ahmad was shot by Israeli forces with a live round to the head during a military raid on Aqabat Jaber refugee camp, resulting in life-threatening injuries. He was first taken to a local hospital in Jericho, then transferred to Palestine Medical Center in Ramallah, where he underwent surgery and was admitted to the ICU, but succumbed to his wounds.

Ahmad was critically wounded during an Israeli military raid involving undercover agents and regular army forces that infiltrated Aqabat Jaber refugee camp before dawn. The operation led to clashes with local residents. During the protest, Israeli soldiers fired live ammunition, tear gas, and stun grenades. Ahmad was struck in the head with a live bullet, a devastating injury that required urgent surgery. Despite efforts by medical teams, his injury proved fatal.
