Biography
Ibrahim Mohammad Ibrahim al-Rantisi was a two-year-old boy from the al-Jneina neighborhood in Rafah, southern Gaza Strip. Despite his short life, Ibrahim was remembered by relatives as a joyful child who brought light to his family home. On May 14, 2021, his life was tragically cut short when Israeli warplanes targeted his family’s three-story home. The strike also killed his grandmother, uncle, and aunt, and injured fifteen others, including seven children. Ibrahim’s death became one of many harrowing examples of the devastating toll Israel’s bombardment inflicted on Gaza’s youngest and most vulnerable.
Born in Rafah in 2019, Ibrahim was the youngest member of the al-Rantisi household. Family members described him as a playful and affectionate child who loved clinging to his parents and following his siblings around the house. He grew up in a densely populated neighborhood already scarred by previous wars, where his family struggled like thousands of others under the blockade. On the evening of May 14, 2021, shortly before 8:30 p.m., Israeli missiles struck the family home without warning. Ibrahim, only two years old, had no chance to escape. His grandmother, Siham (66), and his cousin Shaima’ (21) were also killed in the same attack, as was his uncle Raed (29). His small body was pulled from the rubble by rescuers amid chaos and grief. Ibrahim’s death was one of dozens of child fatalities that day across Gaza, as entire families were wiped out by aerial bombardments. His story highlights the human cost of war, where the innocence of childhood is extinguished in an instant by indiscriminate violence.
