How they died

On Sunday, while working with four Al Jazeera colleagues in a press tent outside the main gate of a hospital in Gaza City, Ibrahim Zaher was killed when Israeli warplanes launched a precision strike on the site. The tent had been in the same location for weeks and was known to be used exclusively by journalists. The Israeli military later admitted to carrying out the attack, claiming without evidence that one of the journalists present was a Hamas operative. Eyewitnesses reported that there was no active fighting nearby, and press freedom groups condemned the strike as a deliberate targeting of journalists. Zaher died instantly in the blast along with four other Al Jazeera staff members.
