Ahmad Harb Ayyad
Ahmad Harb Ayyad died from severe physical trauma after being assaulted and repeatedly beaten by Israeli soldiers while attempting to cross a breach in the Annexation Wall.
Ahmad Harb Ayyad died on July 5, 2022, as a result of a violent physical assault by Israeli soldiers. He was attempting to cross through a breach in the Annexation Wall near Tulkarem, in the northern occupied West Bank, along with other Palestinian laborers seeking work inside Israel. These crossings, though informal and dangerous, are frequently used by Palestinian workers desperate for income due to the crippling economic conditions in Gaza.
As Ahmad and the group of workers moved through the area, Israeli soldiers intercepted them. Rather than detaining or warning them, the soldiers brutally beat Ahmad, striking him repeatedly with batons and rifle butts, according to reports. He suffered severe internal and external injuries from the assault, which ultimately led to his death. No immediate medical aid was provided, and he died shortly afterward from the trauma.
Ahmad’s death was not caused by gunfire, as is often the case in similar incidents, but by blunt-force trauma, highlighting the deliberate and excessive use of force. His killing was widely condemned by labor unions and human rights organizations as an execution-style killing of a defenseless civilian simply trying to reach work. The denial of safe, legal access to employment, combined with the lethal response to those who seek alternatives, underscores the systemic violence Palestinian workers face. Ahmad’s death illustrates the deadly risks ordinary laborers endure just to survive under Israeli occupation and Gaza’s blockade.
