Ibrahim Nabulsi, 30, was a prominent Palestinian resistance fighter from the city of Nablus in the northern occupied West Bank. He was known locally as a senior member of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, affiliated with the Fateh movement. Widely regarded as a symbol of defiance among Palestinian youth, Nabulsi had long evaded multiple Israeli assassination attempts. He was accused by Israeli forces of participating in numerous shooting attacks targeting their incursions into Nablus and its surrounding areas. On August 9, 2022, he was killed along with two others—Islam Sbouh, 22, and Hussein Jamal Taha, 16—during a large-scale Israeli military offensive in the Old City of Nablus. Despite his militant profile, Ibrahim was seen by many in Nablus as a local hero who had resisted occupation under extreme pressure and continuous threat.
Born and raised in Nablus, Ibrahim Nabulsi became a key figure within the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, where he played a leading role in organizing armed resistance against repeated Israeli military incursions. Known by some as "The Lion of Nablus," Ibrahim had survived numerous Israeli attempts on his life, including a raid in February 2022 that resulted in the deaths of three other fighters while he managed to escape. Nabulsi's prominence grew as he evaded capture, inspiring many Palestinians amid growing unrest in the West Bank. On the morning of August 9, 2022, Israeli forces launched a large-scale operation in Nablus involving hundreds of soldiers, armored vehicles, and drones. The army surrounded a house in the Old City where Ibrahim was staying. A prolonged gunfight ensued, during which Israeli soldiers fired live ammunition, gas canisters, and eventually shelling. Ibrahim, along with fellow fighters Islam Sbouh and 16-year-old Hussein Taha, was killed during the exchange. The attack also resulted in over 40 wounded Palestinians, including four in critical condition. The offensive left the Old City under lockdown, with mosques broadcasting calls for blood donations and medical workers struggling to reach the injured due to Israeli restrictions.
